Honda
came to us the winter of 1999 from the Denham Ranch in Texas. I had been wanting
a mare of this bloodline and quality for a long time, so we were so excited to
get the call that she was ours. We had no idea just what a precious gift
we were about to include in our lives. The
day Honda walked onto our property and into our lives was a day of wonder and
enlightenment. She not only was a kind, gentle soul, she had an unusual
way of helping people see the best in them selves. Every one who met her
fell in love and felt her angelic presence and unconditional love. Even
though she was kind to everyone, her true gift to me was the way she loved
and cared for my children. She lived her life through them,
especially my son Owen. Every time he came out to see her, you could see
her spirit lift up and embrace him. He would run up and hug her knee or
the closest body part. She would actually smile and hug him back. He
would take long rides on her with out a bridle or halter. She was
Owen's best friend. For
three years now, Honda has not been allowed to eat green grass or live freely
with other horses. She has been fighting a loosing battle with chronic
founder and laminitis. She had good days and some not good days. In
these three years, she has given us two beautiful foals, one of which, Amada
IHS, will live
with us forever. On
April 29th, 2003, Honda had to give up her battle with this crippling condition.
My vet and I gently helped her to pass on and we buried her in our pasture in a
honored place where she will remain with us forever. She is now in green
pastures where she can actually eat the grass and her feet no longer hurt. Even
though we will always miss Honda, we are so grateful that we were allowed to be
a part of her life. |
